5:00 a.m. Wake up and think within the quiet.

5:15 a.m. Read or write, be in the company of words.

6:30 a.m. Start moving through an awakening house, get ready for a Grinnell day.

7:15 a.m. Walk May the Pug, marvel at how the world is FANTASTIC for her every single day.

7:45 a.m. Wish my kids a great day and get ready for meetings.

8:00 a.m. Start meetings which, in the pandemic, are screen events throughout the day, and for which I provide examples in the times below.

9:00 a.m. One of several pandemic planning meetings, debriefs and updates.

10:00 a.m. Learn about an initiative, a creative idea to move Grinnell forward.

11:00 a.m. Attend the faculty meeting or a staff fireside chat.

12:00 p.m. If it’s Wednesday, get to know students over the lunch hour.

1:00 p.m. Connect with alumni of the College from all over the world.

2:00 p.m. Have a one-on-one meeting with a senior staff leader of a division of the College.

3:00 p.m. Meet with members of the Board of Trustees in groups or committees.

4:00 p.m. Attend one of several College committee meetings (there are several!).

5:00 p.m. Work with campus partners on a special project (there are many!).

6:00 p.m. Do a first sweep of e-mail for the day, read higher ed articles and news.

7:00 p.m. Connect with my family, cook cacio e pepe, catch up on the world.

8:00 p.m. Still connecting with family, now eating dinner, still catching up on the world.

9:00 p.m. Talk to my mother, who is on her own in another state during the pandemic.

10:00 p.m. Work through e-mail, start to read ahead for the next day.

11:00 p.m. Be incredibly grateful for Grinnell College and all that Grinnellians make possible.
