6:45 a.m. – Grab iPad, check out NYTimes – Sherpa disaster on Everest, ferry tragedy. Check out sports: Go Red Sox, comeback victory in the 9th against Chicago.
7:00 a.m. – At computer, work on Tuesday evening talk on Commons.
7:30 a.m. – Feed Tapuz (the orange cat), back upstairs and shower. Purple shirt for Good Friday.
7:55 a.m. – Into CRSSJ [Center for Religion, Spirituality, and Social Justice], turn on the magic coffee machine, put teal 1-in-4 t-shirt for Sexual Assault Awareness Week [SAAW] on over purple shirt.
8:05 a.m. – Emails and phone calls about Local Foods dinner on Earth Day.
8:10 a.m. – Put Haggadah from Monday’s Passover Seder in campus mail for Jon Andelson, [Anthropology].
9:00 a.m. – Send email about “Week of Weeks” – Passover, Easter, Holi, end of SAAW, Hunger Banquet, Earth Week.
9:55 a.m. – Send email about Shabbat Table and Saturday morning Torah study, include three quotes for three days of the Omer period, by Sir Ernest Shackleton, Jim Morrison and Nelson Mandela.
10:00 a.m. – Off to Grille to meet students about a new group: The idENTITY project. Chitchat, review and plan next steps.
11:00 a.m. – Back to CRSSJ to tutor student on written and conversational Hebrew.
12:00 p.m. – Work on emails, prep for Torah study, submit nominations for DSA student and staff awards.
2:00 p.m. – Quick trip home to grab food, say ‘hi’ to my wife Liz, pick up clean table cloths and towels for Shabbat Table.
2:30 p.m. – Gather and review files on Giving Gardens Network.
2:45 p.m. – Get and print e-files of posters for Earth Day: Local Foods dinner and Commons talk.
2:50 p.m. – Stop by JRC, drop off table cloths and towels in Chalutzim kitchen, on to Ahrens Park and Imagine Grinnell offices to meet with folks about newly-formed Grinnell Giving Gardens Network and related things.
4:30 p.m. – Back at the CRSSJ, touch up opening remarks and blessing for Hunger Banquet.
5:10 p.m. – Head over to JRC, peek in door to Chalutzim kitchen to say hi to students, head back to lounge.
5:20 p.m. – Lead Kabbalat Shabbat services, stop by kitchen to pick up matzah for blessing and down to 101.
5:55 p.m. – Greet greeters, schmooze with students at tables, on chairs and on the floor for Hunger Banquet.
6:05 p.m. – Get dramatic for presentation, break matzah, wish everyone well and head back upstairs to 209.
6:20 p.m. – Start community-building exercise and Sabbath blessings. Shabbat Table: good food, good conversations.
8:30 p.m. – Collect dirty table cloths. Sit down for group song singing and blessings after eating.
9:00 p.m. – Back to CRSSJ. Close things up and head home.
