Science has been explaining to us that ‘we must act’ for the last 50 years. Up until now, we’ve not been serious in mitigating and adapting to climate change.
We have no time to remain passive observers or to wait for some trigger as a cue to act. Economic damage world-wide, environmental harms and a diminished quality of life are accelerating; climate change is already impacting us.
The evidence is presented to us every single year. Historic fires in California and Colorado, record rainfall flooding at Houston and river flooding in Iowa, tidal flooding as never before seen in Miami and heat and humidity climbing overall are only a few examples.
Up to now, we parallel the people living in the ancient city of Pompeii. We observe the growing quakes and lava spews from Mount Vesuvius and continue doing what we have been doing and wait. Instead, let’s prepare to endure and limit the menacing impact from a climate crisis.
Demand the city of Grinnell get a climate crisis plan and launch it.
On the other hand, if you don’t demand action, scientists already know how that will work out for you and your offspring.
Listen to the scientists.
