Block Party goers,

As we all know, Block Party is a heavenly end of the year celebration honoring the conclusion of a successful academic year. It’s a day full of bliss, happiness and plenty, but it can also be a day of debauchery. In order to maximize your fun as well as your safety, please keep in mind the following when you’re basking in the glory of the 1000 block of High Street on Friday, May 20:

1. Do not cross 6th Avenue with an open container. This one’s a no-brainer. It’s the same rule as always, only this time there will be several cops patrolling the area. Trash cans will be hanging out around the northern end of the block. They are your friends.

2. Don’t urinate outside. There will be 12 porta-potties on the block for your usage. There is no way all 12 will be occupied at one time. Use them whenever you need to relieve yourself.

3. If you are of age, get your wristbands from the Block Party organizers tabling starting on May 12 outside of the Dining Hall. Also, buy a Blockstone Light T-shirt. They’re really cool.

4. Replenish your body. Whether or not you are boozing, being out in the sun (because it will be sunny) is taxing on your body. Drink water and enjoy a few cheeseburgers, hot dogs, bratwursts or slices of pizza.

5. Don’t give the police a reason to reprimand you. The cops are there to facilitate a good time and will not disturb your good time unless you deserve it.

Most of all, have fun. As Helen Keller once said, “Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing at all.” Dare to have fun. Dare to be smart. Dare to stay safe.

Number 1 on the block and number 1 in your heart,

Brent LeMoine

2016 Block Party Host
