Eloise Miller ’15 recently broke the school record in the long jump with a distance of 16’11” ¼. She surpassed the previous record of 16’10” ½ set by her in 2012 and Amanda Walker in 1995. Miller, an intended history major from Portland, Oregon, also contributes to the team in the 4×400 relay and high jump. 

What is your favorite thing about track? 

I really like the relay; I like that part of the team. I really like running with my sister [Isabelle Miller ’13], so that’s really fun.

Do you ever feel competitive with your sister?

The relay is a lot of fun to run with her. But, we’re definitely both competitive people. We don’t run the same events though, so it’s usually not an issue.

What are your goals for the year?

It’d be great to make it to Nationals in the 4×4 especially since this is Isabelle’s last year. And obviously Nationals in the jumps would be great, but it might be another couple years before that happens.

Do you have any funny traditions on the team? 

The 4×4 wears hair bows for meets and they’re ridiculously large this year.

What has been the best moment for you during your Grinnell College athletic career?

That’s a tough call—probably our 4×400 at Conference [last year]. We finally ran sub-4 [minutes]. We got second, but it was still a big moment for us.

What is your least favorite thing about your sport? 

The injuries. Especially with jumps, and they don’t tend to go away. I had a stress fracture last year and in high school and just lots of knee problems.

If you didn’t do track, what sport would you want to try?

I played basketball in high school, and I really liked it. Unfortunately, I was not that good.

What is your favorite thing about Grinnell?

I really like the athletic community. That most athletes go to other sporting events that aren’t their own. I feel like we’re all pretty supportive of each other.

What is your favorite party at Grinnell?

I’d have to go with Block Party. It’s clearly the best.
