Congressional Record Officially Honors Taylor

On the night of Nov. 20, the world of basketball was shook by one 5-foot-10 guard–Jack Taylor–as he scored a record breaking 138 points in one game. Within hours of the game’s end, basketball fanatics, NBA players, sports talk shows and even people who didn’t know the first thing about NCAA basketball were made aware of this incredible feat. This news even made it on to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, where Congressman Bruce Braley, who represents Grinnell, congratulated both Taylor and the Pioneers on their remarkable victory.  Yesterday, on the same court that Taylor scored those 138 points, Taylor was met by Braley and honored with a copy of the Congressional Record documenting Braley’s tribute.  After joking about his own sports accomplishments, Braley complimented Taylor once again on his record-breaking game. The modest Taylor graciously accepted the honor, remarking how surprised and delighted he is about the extent to which his record has been recognized. He also commented that now that his season is over (due to a severe wrist injury), he has more time to reflect on all that has happened these last couple of months. He concluded by wishing his team the best of luck for the rest of season, as they prepare themselves for a game against Lake Forest this Saturday.
