The first day of Fall Term 1 has been delayed to Monday, August 31, a week later than the original start date, per an email from President Anne Harris sent on Wednesday afternoon. The delay was decided today by a unanimous vote from the Faculty Executive Council, as the power outage caused by Monday’s derecho continues across Grinnell.
Harris’s email also says that faculty will be able to sign up to use power and WiFi in the HSSC shortly in order to prepare for the upcoming term while the power outage continues. Power is not expected to be restored to Grinnell until Saturday at the earliest. Dinner and snacks are available for students living off campus outside the JRC from 4-6 p.m. each day during the outage, and the JRC is open to on-campus students from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The College has also partnered with Poweshiek County Emergency Management to open the field house on campus to provide emergency shelter for those who need it.
