The Nip Slips again on High

For many students, they can walk onto High Street on weekend nights and leave the worries of the world behind them. But for some students, this is the case every day.

Aaltan Ahmad, Liberty Britton, Mackenzie Shanahan, Jeanette Miller and Arthur Richardson (all ’14) are the inhabitants of 1015 High Street. Throughout the year, the house has changed names and members, but not their fundamental appreciation of good friends.

“Last semester [our house name] was the Serengeti because the Serengeti is a place where there are intense droughts and then intense rain and that reflected our sex lives,” Britton said.

Fortunately, the frequencies of their droughts eventually lessened, and the group found it necessary to change the name.

“We had to change it to The Nip Slip because four of us have one of our nipples pierced,” Britton explained.

The singular member with un-pierced nipples was not revealed.

With the exception of Richardson, the group all lived together on Norris 4th their first year, a time that brings back many memories for them.

“My friendship with Aaltan was solidified our freshman year when I put him over my shoulder and carried him around because he only weighed 120 pounds,” Shanahan recalled fondly.

The solidification of friendships has continued and expanded. Now, the housemates are exceptionally comfortable with each other, evidenced by their willingness to share even the most intimate aspects of themselves.

“We get naked all the time,” Richardson said.

Additionally, the five friends make an active effort to ensure that their housemates feel comfortable in their own skin. Therefore, when a member exposes any part of their body, the rest are sure to give well-deserved compliments.

But the members of The Nip Slip do not just feed each other’s egos, they also feed each other’s stomachs.

“We cook dinner together every night,” Richardson said. “We make some good ass grub.”

“We used to eat three dozen eggs a week,” Ahmad added.

The house also boasts myriad attractions, including their beer cap garden in the front yard and a total of seven bikes, three of which are in use—partially because some are broken and partially because some are unnecessary.

“I don’t really leave this house,” Ahmad admitted.

Richardson confirmed his and Ahmad’s failure to slip away from The Nip Slip.

“Aaltan and [me], we’re just loners,” Richardson said.

However, Richardson assures that while the group has remained close-knit, the rest of the group has still managed to branch out and expand their circle of friends.

Last semester, they even had another roommate from outside of their Norris crew, Clark Fancher ’15, who Richardson hosted as a prospie.

Richardson studied abroad the second semester of his third year as well as last semester. This was not a part of his plan when the group signed the lease on the house.

Luckily, Fancher was able to fill his place in the house before going abroad this semester, leaving room for Richardson’s return.

The housemates continue to maintain a good relationship with Fancher, citing him as their honorary roommate. However, this came as a surprise to some of members of the group because Fancher initially made a poor impression.

“I met him at Block Party and the first thing he said to me was ‘I hope you do your dishes right after you use them’ and I spent the rest of Block Party looking for another housemate,” Shanahan said. “He ended up being an awesome roommate.”

With Fancher’s restored reputation, the group has shifted their disdain to another housemate.

“Aaltan has almost set the house on fire for many reasons,” Britton explained.

“I was really into candles for a while,” Ahmad justified.

But despite having endangered their lives, the group is close enough that he remains a valued part of the house—as do the rest of the members.

While some houses on High Street this year have ended up as a random compilation of acquaintances, The Nip Slip is glad to be a house of good pals.

“A lot of houses got pushed together in the shuffle of signing leases and stuff, but this house is very intentional,” Richardson said.
