Community Members Speak: Holiday season in Grinnell, Iowa

With the holiday season quickly approaching, S&B reporter Zach Spindler-Krage took to downtown Grinnell, Iowa to ask community members the critically important question, “What is your favorite part of the holiday season in Grinnell?” The answers varied, but the enthusiasm shone through in every answer, leaving us excited for the festivities on the horizon.

"I went to college at a time when spring break wasn’t quite as glamorous as what it is today, but because I was part of the Central College wrestling team, we would go south someplace warm, Florida, and wrestle. It was a typical bunch of guys in a mini bus, just going from gas station to gas station, and then when we got down there we did a wrestling tournament and spent the week on the beach." —Craig Cooper

“We always had a sleigh in the barn, and my dad would always say that it was Santa’s sleigh. Each year we’d have a great big family dinner and have sleigh rides.” —L’ena Hotchkin

Zach Spindler-Krage is a fourth year at Grinnell College studying political science and policy studies. He previously served as a staff writer, photographer and news editor for The S&B and spent his summer working at The Denver Post.

Gabriela Rożnawska is a second-year student majoring in Computer Science, Psychology and concentrating in Linguistics from Krakow, Poland. She is likely to be spotted longboarding around town and, if stopped, would be delighted to discuss tornados, planes, rodents and plans for an upcoming multi-city trip.
