Wi-Fi Outages
In the past weeks, the College has experienced two Wi-Fi outages lasting numerous hours. On Feb. 11, there was an unexpected campus-wide wireless outage caused by a power outage. Information Technology Services (ITS) Network Services was notified of the outage around 1:00 p.m. by the after-hour support center, according to an ITS email sent to students on Feb. 12. Wi-Fi services were restored by 2:00 p.m. Another unexpected outage occurred on Feb. 19, causing computer-based service issues that disrupted classes in the midst of Junior Visit Day. ITS is working with the manufacturer to address the ongoing troubles.
Alum-in-residency
Sarah Strommen `95 concluded her alum-in-residency at Grinnell on March 7, finishing two days of events and conversations with students, faculty and staff. Strommen is the commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and formerly served as a city councilmember and mayor in Ramsey, Minnesota. She majored in biology and Latin American studies at Grinnell, followed by Fulbright research in Costa Rica and a Master of Environmental Management from Duke University. She spoke with students about running for office, her career in government and her experience as a Fulbright scholar.
SGA elections
Grinnell Student Government Association (SGA) announced candidates for the upcoming SGA elections. Heaven Maye `27 and Kyla Miller `25 are running for president. Ziana Benjiman `25 and Thaina Silva de Paula Theodoro `27 and Olivia Wang `25 are running for vice president of academic affairs. At the time of the SGA email on March 6, there were no applicants for vice president of student affairs. The election will take place on March 11 and 12.
