TitleIXProtestOn Thursday, Nov. 20, as part of National Awareness Week and launching the “It’s On Us” campaign, the College held an event in Lyle’s Pub titled “Title IX ‘Rewind.’” The event featured a panel of administrators and faculty, consisting of Angela Voos, Title IX Coordinator; Chris Ralston, Professor of Psychology; Andrea Conner, Dean of Students; Jen Jacobsen, Wellness Director; Deanna Shorb, Dean of Religious Life, and Jeff Pedersen, athletics coach and Professor of Physical Education. The panel answered questions submitted anonymously online and from those in attendance. Around 15 minutes into the event, a group of students arrived to express its concerns with Grinnell’s policy and conduct surrounding Title IX and Clery Act. The students conducted a silent protest by arriving with red tape over their mouths and carrying posters with questions they believed the administration has ignored or silenced during its overall discussion. It was clear, even before the students arrived, that the topic of sexual assault, sexual misconduct and Title IX and the Clery Act were extremely important and personal issues to the student body.
