During the month of October, Drake Library will continue its community movie program “Monday Night Movies.” Established in May of 2017, the movie screening program is a community favorite. “[T]here has been a demand for public showing of movies again this fall at Drake Community Library,” library employees Marilyn Kennett and Julie Owens wrote in a press release.

The month of October will have five movie showings open to all people of the community eighteen years-of-age and older. Each movie starts at 6 p.m. in the Caulkins Community Room and will conclude within two-and-a-half hours. The showings are free and are open to the public. Snacks and water are provided, and attendees can also bring their own treats.

“The Devil Wears Prada” (2006) will kick off the movie nights on October 2nd, followed by “The Uninvited” (2009), “Moonlight” (2016) and “Space Cowboys” (2000). Concluding the program will be “The Haunting of Molly Hartley” (2008) on Oct. 30.

In the spirit of the Halloween Season, “The Uninvited” and “The Haunting of Molly Hartley” are horror films. However, the movies’ themes vary, and dabble into comedy, drama and science fiction. “Moonlight,” a drama released in 2016, won the 2017 Academy Award for Best Picture.

The program is accessible to those with disabilities “and equipped with an induction hearing loop system, which enables individuals with hearing aids set to T-Coil to hear the movie.” For more information, contact the library at (641) 236-2661 or visit www.grinnell.lib.ia.us.
