The basketball career of Keith Chamberlain ’08 was highlighted in Steve Yang’s ’17 “Basketball Alum Shoots for NBA D-League”, published in the S&B on Friday, Oct. 11. As stated in the article, Chamberlain tried out for the Iowa Energy—a team in the National Basketball Association’s Development League—and at the time of writing was waiting to hear back from the team.
The S&B is pleased to report that Chamberlain was drafted by the Austin Toros as the 12th pick in the fourth round of the draft. By securing a spot on the roster for a NBA D-League team, Chamberlain has successfully made the step towards potentially playing in the NBA.
As a player in the NBA D-League, Chamberlain will be able to improve his skills by playing against extremely talented players, as well as gain additional exposure to NBA recruiters. Over 100 NBA D-League players have gone on to play in the NBA, most notably, Jeremy Lin who made a splash two years ago with the New York Knicks. No Grinnellian has ever made it to play in the NBA; will Chamberlain be the first?
