Sometimes I think about the fact that fish exist in multitudes in the world around us, and it really floors me. They’re so weird! So this week, I decided to honor my love and fascination with fish and write about them. I got a lot of this information from a website called Fishipedia.
Aries (March 21 – April 19): Brown bullhead
You may read the name and think Taurus, but I think, in fact I know, that Aries can be very stubborn too. They live in groups and are primarily active at night, and I feel like a lot of Aries like to go out. Something about the face and dashing whiskers says Aries to me, too.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Everglades pygmy sunfish
They’re so cute! They have sweet little faces and a nice blue color. I feel like they use their big eyes to see you and to understand you, showcasing the empathy that many Tauruses have.
Gemini (May 21 – June 21): Mexican tetra
These fish are silvery and shiny, two qualities that somehow seem like Gemini to me. They live in groups, which makes sense. They’re carnivorous but not aggressive, which is also very Gemini.
Cancer (June 22 – July 22): Finescale saddled darter
These guys are solitary, which will resonate with emotional Cancers. They also bury themselves in the rocks sometimes, an impulse that Cancers also have sometimes.
Leo (July 23 – August 22): Sailfin molly
This is another appearance-based one — these tropical fish have flashy, colorful scales and big showy fins. They’re not territorial, but the males sometimes have a hard time getting along, and I think male Leos have that problem too.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22): Pumpkinseed
What a cute name! But the cuteness of its title hides a lightly territorial nature. They’re not aggressive or anything like that, they just like their space and live in a small group of their choice. Much like Virgos, who aren’t mean per se, they just like things a certain way and may be a little serious and standoffish at first.
Libra (September 23 – October 23): Longnose gar
This fish is pretty flexible. It can live in a group or alone, it’s diurnal, and it’s not territorial. That kind of acceptance of change or grey area, and sometimes indecision, is very Libra.
Scorpio (October 24 – November 21): Largemouth black bass
These fresh water fiends are a bit temperamental, maybe not easily understood by all. They’re solitary, or live with one trusted fish, and they don’t hesitate to attack when someone infringes on their territory.
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21): Rainbow shiner
Sagittarius shares a sociable, active personality with this lovely little fish. Further, although they live in groups, this fish is pretty independent. They like to have fun and stay in their lane.
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19): Redeye bass
These fish look pretty standard, but they’re actually predators of their habitats. They’re very territorial, and sometimes provoke heated altercations. I think this serious and particular sign can relate to some of that territoriality.
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18): Tequila splitfin
Funny name aside, I picked this fish for Aquarians because they were labeled extinct in 2013 but have since been slowly reintroduced. This Mexican native fish might be a little shy, a little rare, but they’re easygoing and sociable.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20): Ohio lamprey
Kind of scary and weird but also kind of awesome. Also pretty mysterious — we don’t know how they reproduce yet! They’re solitary and not territorial. They’re just strange, peaceful loners.
