Men’s Soccer

The men’s soccer team won the Sal Vaccaro Tournament, hosted by North Central College, last weekend. The team defeated Webster University 2-0 on Saturday to advance to the final round. In the game, Nick Brule ’17 and Artis Curiskis ’18 scored goals to secure the win.

In the final round, Grinnell faced Penn State-Behrend and triumphed 3-1. Although Joey Brown ’15 scored the first goal in the fifth minute, the Nittany Lions tied the game seven minutes later. Michael Hurley ’16 and Brown each scored a goal in the second half to clinch the Tournament.

Football

The football team lost to Beloit College 27-23 in its season opener last Saturday.  Sam Poulos ’16 completed 18 of 36 passes for 267 yards and threw two touchdowns. Zach McGriff ’18 and Jake Meixler ’15 caught the touchdown passes, while Aamir Walton ’15 snatched five passes for 84 yards.

Defensively, David Ternes ’15 led the team with ten tackles while Richard Renteria ’15 recorded nine tackles. Daniel Ryerson ’15 added a sack for a loss of 10 yards.

The team will next face Luther College tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Decorah, Iowa.
