Man accused of assaulting Grinnell College student enters not guilty plea

Noah Grage, the Durant, Iowa man charged with a Class D felony assault charge for the alleged assault of a Grinnell College student, has entered a plea of not guilty as of Dec. 26. 

Grage is accused of assaulting a first-year Grinnell College student on campus the night of Nov. 2. The student also alleged that Grage had called him an anti-gay slur earlier on the night of the alleged assault. If found guilty of the assault charge, Grage is facing a maximum prison sentence of five years and fines of up to $10,245.

Grage was arraigned on the charge on Jan. 2 and has been free on a $1,000 bond since Nov. 9.

He is set to appear at the Poweshiek County Courthouse in Montezuma for a pretrial conference on March 6 at 9:30 a.m. From there, the case will either be settled or proceed to trial.

Dennis McKelvie, Grage’s defense attorney declined to comment.
