Every year in the calm before midterms week, pairs of Grinnellians face each other in one-on-one combat. Like the gladiators of Ancient Rome, they fight neither for creed nor country, but for glory and the amusement of onlookers. This past 10/10, on Oct. 7, 2023, dozens of combatants faced off in duels for the ages. All entered the arena, and while only half emerged as champions, all etched their names into the history of Grinnell.
